F ZINE People Cam: Singapore International Film Festival 2025 Edition
We wrapped up 2025 with these stylish film buffs, spotted at the SGIFF 2025.
By Lucy Lauron,
This past December 7, Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) wrapped up its 36th edition, and it was its grandest yet. The festival opened with Taiwanese film icon Shu Qi’s directorial debut, a slew of short film debuts from Singapore’s promising young talent, and more than 120 films across 45 countries including 30 Singapore-produced and co-produced films. Given that SGIFF 2025 tickets increased by 52 per cent from last year, and that there were more than 30 sold-out screenings (four times more than 2024, mind you), to say that this year’s festival was a success would be a major understatement.
From young aspiring filmmakers, to sets of new but curious eyes, to friends and family flying in to show support to their creative communities, the festival made clear that there’s still some room for cinema in Singapore — and F Zine’s People Cam captured some of its most stylish patrons.
Name: Sonia Wong
Age: 36
Occupation: Artist
The fit: "Looking chic while travelling is not the easiest, but I found Pleats Please (the brand my pants are from) to be the best brand to travel in — their pieces are low maintenance, wrinkle-resistant, take up little luggage space, and give you an instantly recognisable shape and style! I threw on this pink Marimekko top because my feng-shui master says that pink is good for me and complements my complexion, and obviously it’s fitting to be colourful for a queer-themed screening! While Crocs can be controversial, my friends say that I am one of the few people who can make Crocs sexy — so I love them!”
2025’s best movie is...: “The documentary 10s Across The Borders, for sure! Such a beautiful and intimate capturing of queer lives and history across Asia in the now!”
A movie franchise that should be revisited: “I have been rewatching a lot of Hong Kong classics, somehow the texture of films feels different then than now — it’s richer and more ‘cinematic’ somehow. Would love to see more of that in general! Oh, and I am a die-hard Wong Fei Hung (a Chinese martial artist) fan — so maybe more historical martial arts dramas?”
“For 2026, I’m manifesting...”: “More beauty, more joy, more togetherness to create magical moments for all, the world needs it!”
Name: Intan McCallum
Age: 19
Occupation: Film student at Singapore Polytechnic
The fit: “This outfit is inspired by street style of the 2000s. Maybe Avril with the fitted top and baggy bottoms, that girl dressed practical — ready to home wreck! My top is from Vietnam. Jorts, stolen from my sister’s closet and my trusty Doc Marten ugg-ish shoes that are glued onto me at this point.”
2025’s best movie is...: “One Battle After Another by Paul Thomas Anderson. For three hours, that man sat me down and held my attention which is practically impossible. A close second would be Bugonia... beautiful closing sequence. Honorable mention: Five Nights A Freddy’s 2.”
A movie franchise that should be revisited: “I’d love to see a Back to the Future–style adventure adapted rather than remade… not a reboot, but an original story that captures the same sense of curiosity, time, and wonder for a new generation. Some classics should evolve in spirit, not be copied scene-for-scene.”
“For 2026, I’m manifesting...”: ”Slowing down and immersing myself in film. During my gap year, I plan to visit cinemas, attend festivals (including the Singapore Youth Film Festival) and explore local screenings, all while developing my own work. I’m manifesting the space to make a feature film and create more freely across my art, from photography and illustration to visual storytelling.”
Name: Glenn Mizrahi
Age: 34
Occupation: Designer
The fit: “My outfit was made by me. I like classic goth with a touch of grunge and street style, and I have a very specific silhouette that I adore very much: some sort of cropped blazer or top with a pleated skirt over pants. It helps to elongate my proportions.”
2025’s best movie is...: “I must say, it was Wicked: For Good – a biased theatre student answer.”
A movie franchise that should be revisited: “I would love to see Kinky Boots be remade and readapted again or even Chicago.”
“For 2026, I’m manifesting...”: “More fashion opportunities. More opportunities to show that fashion has no fixed gender and sexuality. I’m also manifesting to start my own fashion line. I love working with blacks, denim, tartan, and street grunge style with a touch of goth kinda style.”
Name: Derek Chu
Age: 31
Occupation: Communications Specialist
The fit: "It’s a mix of online finds and gems I got while travelling. I wanted a strong silhouette that feels more bottom-heavy, but still clean and slick on top. I’m absolutely in love with the pants. They’re super flared balloon pants from a Thai brand, @snowkiller.co, which I got during a recent trip. I kept the top classic with a cropped blazer and a simple white shirt that I found online, then finished the look with a tie with silver chains to set the mood. Lastly, my high platform boots are from Yosuke, a Japanese shoe brand. Honestly, who doesn’t love a little extra height?”
2025’s best movie is...: “I’m a huge superhero fan, so James Gunn’s Superman easily wins this year for me.”
A franchise that should be revisited: “With so many live-action adaptations lately, I’d honestly love to see Tom and Jerry brought to life on the big screen.”
“For 2026, I’m manifesting...”: “Happiness, the world has been a little dark and we can use a little joy. Good vibes always.
Name: King Mizrahi
Age: 23
Occupation: A fashion student and fashion designer
The fit: “It’s all from Taobao, honestly! I love to experiment with different silhouettes and textures. The inspo was a mix of ballroom energy, club kid drama, and everyday wearability — something bold, playful, and very me.”
2025’s best movie is...: “I’m still catching up on a lot of 2025 releases, but it’s been such a strong year for film. I’ve been really drawn to movies that feel emotionally driven and visually intentional — the kind that stay with you after the credits roll. Anyone want to into slide into my DMs and recommend something?”
A movie franchise that should be revisited: “I’d love to see The Sound of Music reimagined. It’s such a timeless classic, and I think it would be beautiful to see it adapted for a new generation with a contemporary visual style, while still keeping the heart and music that made it so iconic.”
“For 2026, I’m manifesting...”: “I’m manifesting community, creativity, and everyone coming down to experience it with me at my fashion show that’s happening on January 31, 2026. We’re partnering with *Scape as part of Comma 2026 (*Scape’s annual youth creative arts festival) and it’s a full collaboration with Singapura Ballroom. If you love voguing, come down! Expect duck walks, dips, drama, and a lot of c*nty energy.”
Name: Goes by Hadif
Age: 24
Occupation: A communications & New Media student at NUS
The fit: "My shirt was thrifted, jorts from Cotton On, loafers from Shopee and bag from Chums.”
2025’s best movie is...: “F1: The Movie. The slow-motion shot at the end from the perspective of the main character Sonny Hayes in the car was a cinematic masterpiece.”
A franchise that should be revisited: “The Percy Jackson book series. They made two movies so far but Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters was a poor attempt. They need to remake it and adapt the rest of the book series.”
“For 2026, I’m manifesting...”: “A full-time job. Please.”
Name: Feicien Feng
Age: 27
Occupation: Director
The fit: “This is pretty much my go-to cinema look. I like wearing all black and just blending into the dark. And since theaters are always freezing, a warm top is a must. I picked up this Hypnotism jacket during a trip in Saigon. I got caught in a sudden downpour and ducked into this really cool select shop to wait it out, just to end up buying this waterproof jacket. My shorts are from a Uniqlo and JW Anderson collaboration, glasses are from Gentle Monster, and shoes are from Camperlab”
2025’s best movie is...: “10s Across The Borders. I brought my ongoing queer documentary feature to SGIFF, and after watching 10s Across The Borders, I felt so inspired and motivated.”
A movie franchise that should be revisited: “Brokeback Mountain. Years from now, what will have become of that mountain… and that guitar?”
“For 2026, I’m manifesting...”: “To be like water — more creative, more loving, more free.”
Name: Charmaine Poh
Age: 35
Occupation: Artist & co-founder of Jom
The fit: “Most, if not all, were gifted or thrifted!”
2025’s best movie is...: “Amoeba was the first thing that popped up in my head so I’ll just say that.”
A movie franchise that should be revisited, or a franchise that should be adapted into a movie: “I’d rather not. Everything has its own season to blossom.”
“For 2026, I’m manifesting...”: “More days under dappled sunlight.”
