The Great Escape With Narelle Kheng

Together with luxury label Moncler, FEMALE decks out musician Narelle Kheng for a little adventure in the latest threads from the 2 Moncler 1952 collection.

Feminine yet pragmatic, fantastic yet down to-earth – the latest collection from Veronica Leoni, creative director of the 2 Moncler 1952 women’s line from Moncler's Genius project, is a sophisticated mash-up of contrasts with designed-for-layering pieces that offer one ultimate freedom even in these travel-restricted times.

For the collection, which is now available in stores, Leoni interpreted classic feminine silhouettes from the '50s in the form of the cinched silhouettes and the full skirts. She also incorporated her penchant for textures and finishes with the use of materials such as all-over metallic knits, felted wool and technical silk.

As part of Moncler’s commitment to sustainability and Leoni’s own philosophy of creating fashion in as socially conscious a way possible, several pieces in this ladylike-gone-camper-chic collection are crafted from materials that have a lower environmental impact as compared to conventional ones. These include the use of recycled nylon, recycled polyester and organic cotton, while buttons and zips are fashioned out of recycled brass or other types of metal.

The collection is also big on knitwear for its functionality and ease of wear, but the pieces are anything but basic. Kermit and Fozzy – two characters from The Muppets Show – add an unexpected feel-good nostalgia and whimsy as playful prints on hooded sweatshirts and T-shirts.

And someone who knows a little about the beauty of contradictions (she’s a proud Libra) and is on her own journey of recentring following the release of her most ambitious audio-and-visual project yet is Singapore musician Narelle Kheng. Ahead, the spunky pop star shows us how you can live forever young and free in designs from the brand.
