Athirah Anissa

Name: Agatha Jung

Age: 25

Occupation: Theater production and management student

The fit: "The inner and outer tops are from Zara and the robe is from a thrift shop in Kuala Lumpur. My pants are from my mother and my shoes are from a thrift shop in Johor Bahru. My jewellery is mostly from Haji Lane and Kuala Lumpur, but my silver chain necklace and all my silver bracelets are from a store called BLFX in Singapore. For the bag, I bought it from one of my classmates."

Her most painful piercing: "The dermal piercing on my face."

How her style has changed since we last saw her: "I haven't really thought about a specific style. However, I'm trying to follow a style I used to like which was a bohemian, hippie vibe, and am mixing it with a bit of traditional South Korean styles (she's South Korean). I got lot of new tattoos, but the most obvious one is the butterfly tattoo on my neck."

Her favourite theatre production:
"A production I love is Moulin Rouge, it’s my favourite musical."

Something interesting she's learned in class: "Everything I’ve learnt in this course has been quite interesting. I’m used to being a performer, so it was really a good experience for me to learn about what goes on backstage and how theater works. It was surprising for me how much discussion goes into one show."

Athirah Anissa

Name: Marco Nicolas

Age: 19

Occupation: Fine arts student

The fit: "I bought a majority of these clothes from a thrift store in my home country Philippines, and it's pretty cool. It's called Season Pass and they have a lot of things from the '90s, which I love because I get a lot of style inspiration from that decade. I found my cardigan on one of the racks for about S$10. I really liked it because it was really baggy, and it gave off this MTV Unplugged vibe. The shirt is from a brand called DARE, I found it in a bin at a thrift store and I was actually searching for this shirt for a really long time. I got my jorts from the same thrift store as the cardigan for around S$25. As for my shoes, they're standard Doc Martens which I bought just before they stopped selling them in Singapore, so I got them at a pretty good discount at around S$20, if I remember correctly. For my necklace, I made it out of a fork that I stole from Chris Cornell, the frontman of the band, Soundgarden. They're one of my favourite bands from the '90s."

What inspires his style: "I am the biggest '90s glazer. I love everything from the early '90s with the cardigans, flannels and mom jeans, to the late '90s with the baggy jeans, raglan shirts, oversized jackets and so on. Anything to look like Jessie Pinkman from Breaking Bad. I usually just layer a lot of pieces until it looks right, or I spend hours looking at attractive men from the '90s until I build an outfit with the clothes in my wardrobe."

A dream designer purchase: "A lifetime supply of Tobacco Vanille perfume by Tom Ford. I used to just borrow my mom’s perfume until a friend bought a bottle for himself. I tried it, and I’ve been wanting one ever since. I've never actually owned one though, as I don’t see myself spending that much on perfumes."

Something new in Singapore's art scene that he's excited about: "For me, I think the music scene here is really starting to pick up as more bands are coming out, and current bands are pumping out some really good tunes. Some bands and solo artists that are worth checking out are: Cactus Cactus, Vegtable, Curb, Carpet Golf, and Benny’s, just to name a few."

His back-to-school essential: "It’s got to be this pen set I got for my birthday from a really, really good friend of mine. I use it everywhere I go; I use it to draw comics, tattoo ideas, ink drawings. It’s a really awesome gift from a really awesome dude."

Athirah Anissa

Name: Nursyahirah Eddy

Age: 21

Occupation: Fashion design and textiles student

The fit: "I got my top from a flea market in Tokyo, I thrifted the skirt from a store in Johor Bahru, my bag is Balenciaga's Le City bag, and my shoes are from New Rock."

Her favourite designer: "Matty Bovan, because I really like the way he upcycles and make garments that look like art."

What inspires her style: "I think I'm inspired by what I see online, but I would say that I really prioritise comfort and look for items that I can wear for a long time, or can remake into something else."

The most precious item in her closet: "The first skirt I ever reworked a few years ago."

Her back-to-school essential: "A second bag. I carry a big black bag as well as my Balenciaga Le City Bag because I need to carry a lot of school materials for my course."

Something interesting she's learned in class: "A lecturer mentioned a quote by Coco Chanel: 'Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise, it is not luxury,' which aligns with my own beliefs as well."

Athirah Anissa

Name: Muhammad Hamizan Bin Mohamad Jantan

Age: 24

Occupation: Design communication and experience student

The fit: "I bought my cardigan from H&M in 2015, I think. The white button-up is from a Vietnamese brand called Hypnotism Studio which I got at Plop Apparels. My tie is from the brand, Skarcity, my pants are Dickies and my clogs are from UNIF. The bag is actually a hand-me-down from my uncle who bought it in Japan like, eons ago. Funny story about this bag: before I had acquired it, I was in Kuala Lumper unsuccessfully scavenging for a similar one, only for my mum to ask me if I wanted this bag which had been in my house all along!"

The most precious item in his closet: "My collection of thrifted clothes that I bought over the years. I am genuinely proud of my thrifted pieces because it’s not only timeless but also inexpensive! I feel powerful every time I thrift a really good piece. Recently, I purchased a black fitted jacket from Jalan Jalan Japan and I have been obsessed with it ever since."

A fashion trend he want to see in 2025: "Fringe! Polka dots! Jefferey Campbell Litas! Pyramid studs on everything- tops, bags, phone cases! Let’s relive Tumblr fashion circa 2013 - 2014!"

His back-to-school essential: "A good bag for school that can carry everything and is stylish! I am so over with having to compromise on my style, or leave certain items at home because they're too heavy. I want to be that person who conveniently has everything with them without having to carry an extra bag or carry it in my hands."

Something interesting he's learned in class: "Learnt about screen printing so if all else fails, screen printing industry here I come!"

Athirah Anissa

Name: Hoang Nguyet Minh

Age: 21

Occupation: Design communication student

The fit: "Everything on me was thrifted back in Vietnam. I love thrifting so much because you can ball on a budget, and it’s good for the environment!"

What inspires her style: "Honestly, I get this question a lot, and I never know how to answer it. I don’t think my style fits into a specific box, it’s more of a mix of my interests, music, art, politics, things like that."

Her secret to making an outfit stand out: "Keep experimenting! People always say 'find your style,' but I think you have to figure yourself out first, and your style will grow from there."

Her dream designer purchase: "Most of my dream pieces are in museums, you can’t even buy it unless you have a lot of money which I definitely don’t right now, hopefully in the future. But if I could, I would buy a dress designed by Olivier Theyskens from his Spring/Summer 1999 collection.”

Athirah Anissa

Name: Harith

Age: 19

Occupation: Fine arts student

The fit: "I got the hat from a thrift shop, it’s probably one of the more unique hats that I own and my favourite one. I got the shirt at the Pavilion Mall in Malaysia. The pants are actually two different pairs that I thrifted and then sewed together, and I used fabric paint to add some designs. The shoes are the Converse Run Star Hike platforms that my sisters got for me as a birthday present! As for my jewellery, they're a mixture of rings and necklaces that were either thrifted or bought from Shopee. I love wearing them."

A dream designer purchase: "It would probably be either the New Rock platform sneakers, or shoes from Rick Owens. I’ve been wanting to get new shoes for a while now but I haven’t got the money or the motivation."

His secret to making an outfit stand out: "I think colour or an unpractical piece of clothing or accessory is what makes an outfit stand out. I've seen people wear those winter fur hats in 30 degree weather, which is insane especially in Singapore- yet, it's what makes them stand out."

Something new in Singapore's art scene that he's excited about: "It’s Singapore Art Week currently, and that’s exciting in and of itself. I'm specifically looking forward to the Behind the Canvas Series 1: Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibit because I'm a big fan of Basquiat's work."

His back-to-school essentials: "My back-to-school essentials are my bag, my AirPods, a bunch of energy drinks and cheap art supplies."

Athirah Anissa

Name: Claire Lim

Age: 18

Occupation: Fine arts student

The fit: "Most of my pieces are from Taobao! My favourite brand right now is Milk Bear and Milk Cat. I really love their sets and skirts, and unfortunately it is really hard to find alternative clothing in Singapore, so most of my closet was bought online. For this particular outfit, I coordinated the crosses and ribbons of the top and bottom, and added a little lace to top it all off."

Her style influences: "I take a lot of inspiration from anime, especially Misa from Death Note and Nana Osaki from Nana. I think my music taste impacts my style too, as well as many Japanese fashion subcultures like Visual Kei and Gothic Gyaru."

A fashion trend she wants to see in 2025: "I would love to see more lace this year! I feel like lace is only seen as sexy and provocative but personally, it looks so cute paired with a fluffy skirt!"

Her back-to-school essentials: "I cannot leave the house without a lippie and lash glue! I'm always rushing out the house to catch the bus, so a little touch up is always needed. My current favourite is Rom&nd's Glasting Water Tint in the shade 'Red Drop!'"

Something interesting she's learned in class: "Right now, we're learning how to sew for one of my modules. It's great especially because I love to customise and tweak my clothes to suit my style more. It is so interesting to learn more about what I love to do everyday."

Athirah Anissa

Name: Jang Hoyoon

Age: 20

Occupation: Animation art student

The fit: "My knitted sweater is from a South Korean brand called Learve, it has a pretty pattern and is made of a thin material so I can wear it in Singapore. My jeans are from another South Korean brand, Avandress, and my shoes are Nikes."

His back-to-school essential: "Cool glasses."

A movie that we should all be streaming right now: "Ocean Waves, an Japanese animated movie."

His favourite hang-out spot in Singapore so far: "A South Korean restaurant, Hansing Pocha."

Athirah Anissa

Name: Tian Enqi

Age: 17

Occupation: Fine arts student

The fit: "I bought the top and bag online, the pants are from a store called One Moment and my shoes are Crocs. For the top, I altered the neckline and hem to make it look less stiff. I felt that the outfit was a bit plain, so I also added my brown crossbody bag."

What inspires her style: "I have always been fond of retro styles, so I love to buy vintage clothes and accessories."

Her secret to making an outfit stand out
: "I think colour coordination is very important. The tops and bottoms should preferably have colors that correspond to the same colour family. Also, if the entire set has too many colors or the clothing styles and accessories are overly complicated, it will make the overall look a bit messy."

Her back-to-school essentia
l: "A long-sleeved jacket is a must-have because the air conditioning in the classrooms is very cold. Personally, I also carry my brown crossbody bag everyday for my daily necessities. It carries my wallet, phone, headphones, a comb, my student card, lipstick, a small mirror and my keys. I also attach a claw clip so I can put my hair up during meals."
