Our monthly style compendium that captures authentic style found on the streets of Singapore.
By Paige Boon & Sarah Adriana,
This month, we hit the streets and found these stylish people who are not afraid to showcase their personal styles. It’s safe to say that there is no such thing as a “basic” outfit for these individuals. In this edition, we highlight a variety of different styles, from the short skirt and long socks combination, to maximalist accessorising and monochrome looks. Scroll for your next style inspiration.
Name: Christabel Si
Age: 20
Occupation: Student
Spotted at: Temasek Polytechnic
Her fit: “My outfit was inspired by my own graduate collection, Aviditas. I chose a long, sleeveless black dress as a simple base, layered with mesh outerwear for texture, and accessorised with double belts, chained jewellery with sword charms, and two spiked rivet cuffs joined together as an oversized choker. I wanted to incorporate the collection’s key elements—black silhouettes, spiked rivets, and eyelets—while channelling a modern gothic look to match the runway.”
Her style inspiration: “My style is a mix of punk, goth, and visual kei. I take a lot of inspiration from the manga NANA and 2000s Japanese visual kei artists like Miyavi, Dir En Grey, and Malice Mizer. Anything black with hardware works for me. Most importantly, I dress based on the music genre I’m into at the moment and how confident I feel in it.”
Her favourite designer: “I haven’t found a single favourite designer—I admire many for different reasons. Vivienne Westwood for her impact on punk culture and defiance of norms, Yohji Yamamoto for his philosophy and precision, and the visionary designs of Rick Owens, Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Iris van Herpen, and Yasutaka Funakoshi. It’s impossible to pick just one!”
How music influences her style: “Every music genre has its own style and personality. When I listen to gothic rock (HIM, Entwine, The Cure), I gravitate towards flowy dresses, skirts, and blouses with lace and ribbon details. In contrast, metal or shoegaze (Deftones, Limp Bizkit, Loathe) calls for a more masculine, casual look—studded jackets, graphic tees, baggy trousers, and a beanie.”

Inspiration behind her fit: “I wanted to balance comfort with a bit of fun. The top and trousers had an effortless, street-style vibe, which contrasted perfectly with the fuzzy texture of the jacket. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with texture—it really adds character and uniqueness to an outfit!”
Her aspirations as a young creative: “I’d love to start a clothing brand one day, as fashion has always been a passion of mine. I’ve struggled to find pieces that truly reflect my style, so my goal is to create a brand for people like me—those who want fun, distinctive pieces that showcase their individuality. I envision designs that blend comfort, creativity, and boldness, filling a gap in the market for expressive yet accessible fashion.”
Her nail business: “I launched my home-based nail business (@st1nkypinkie on Instagram) nearly a year ago because I’ve always loved nail art and wanted the freedom to create my own designs. Having full creative control means a lot to me, and running my business allows me to share my passion with others.
I love when clients request unique, unconventional designs—it pushes me to experiment and challenge myself. Bold, colourful 3D sets are my favourite to create! Seeing my business grow and knowing my clients trust me to make them feel happy and confident is incredibly rewarding.”

Inspiration behind her fit: “My outfit was inspired by my graduate collection, which focused on vintage and heirloom pieces. The top and cowboy boots were thrifted, the skirt was handmade using leftover fabrics from my collection, and the accessories are heirlooms from my late aunt.”
Her accessories: “The handcrafted turquoise necklace and bracelets were bought by my aunt on a trip to Africa decades ago. The diamond rings are from Dubai, where she lived most of her life, and the agate ring is from a lovely Kashmiri family I met in Melaka.”
Her love for Western fashion and influences: “I’ve always been drawn to Western fashion and media, especially the ’80s—the music, silhouettes, and attitude have a timeless appeal. I’m particularly fascinated by the countryside and its way of life. The aesthetics of rural living—the simplicity, quietness, and connection to nature—bring me a sense of peace and nostalgia, even though I haven’t experienced it firsthand. It’s a world I dream of exploring, and it continues to shape how I see and interpret fashion.”

A song in their playlist that is currently on repeat: “LOVETICON by CSR.”
On one thing happening in the world that’s bothering them: “People have taken social values for granted; I see the rise of conservatism everywhere - in popular culture, aesthetics, subculture, and puritannical attitudes towards sex. I see it online and even amongst my younger peers, and it's a bit disappointing to see that happening through the POV of a millennial.”
