Tiffany & Co. Revives The Holiday Illustrations Andy Warhol Created For It

The American jewellery house is calling it a 'Warholiday' season.

You don’t need to be a Martha Stewart type to appreciate bone china that bears the hallmarks of a luxury or art powerhouse. In this case, you get both: Tiffany & Co.’s six-piece set of dessert plates (below) featuring the illustrations Andy Warhol had created for the jeweller’s holiday greeting cards from 1957 to 1962.

The Tiffany & Co. x Andy Warhol limited-edition collection spans dessert plates (above), ring dishes, holiday cards, playing cards, as well as Christmas baubles.

But the art doesn't just stop at tableware: they appear on playing cards and Christmas tree ornaments too. The drawings of birds, stars, shoes, trees and other Yuletide motifs – done in Warhol's signature blotted line and watercolour style – were created during a time when he was considered one of the most successful commercial illustrators in New York City.

Customers who visited Tiffany & Co.'s Fifth Avenue flagship during the holiday season from 1957 to 1962 would receive cards featuring illustrations by Andy Warhol (above).

Six decades after these Warholian collectables was stopped, we say, it is about time the holiday tradition makes a comeback at the house.
