By Imran Jalal,
Remember when, almost exactly a year ago, Loewe’s then-creative director Jonathan Anderson sent the fashion internet spiralling with a teaser of a tomato-shaped minaudiere?
Inspired by a viral meme comparing a bizarrely beautiful heirloom tomato to Loewe’s surreal designs, the novelty bag quickly became a cult obsession. It was bulbous, glossy, sculptural — with curves so smooth it looked like Anderson had hand-moulded it himself. Well, it’s finally here — and yes, it’s just as juicy as we’d hoped.
Giselle, a member of K-pop group Aespa, shines in this season’s Loewe Paula’s Ibiza campaign.
The timing couldn’t be better. The tomato minaudiere drops as part of Loewe’s annual Paula’s Ibiza collection — the house’s sun-soaked tribute to the bohemian spirit of the iconic '70s counterculture boutique, now in its ninth edition. Hitting stores and online from April 17, it's playful, irreverent, and just the right amount of ridiculous (in the best way). A high-fashion homage to produce, the internet, and Loewe’s offbeat genius.
This season, the cutesy factor goes into overdrive — and it’s not just about the tomato. The collection, known for its exuberant vintage-inspired prints and kaleidoscopic aesthetic, offers a mix-and-match wardrobe that radiates freedom and whimsy. Think compass and feather motifs, flowing silhouettes with lace-trimmed knits, and graphic prints inspired by Ibiza’s lush vegetation. Tomato branch-inspired charms, a rose-shaped bucket hat, and a bee-shaped raffia bag only add to the fun.
Once again shot by Gray Sorrenti, Loewe’s Paula’s Ibiza campaign is set in Comporta, Portugal, and captures the raw joy of being one with nature — sun-drenched still lifes, windswept landscapes, and a cast simply living in the moment.
Accessories fully embrace maximalism — handcrafted charms shaped like fruits, bugs, and blooms dangle like inside jokes for fashion nerds. Bees and flowers reign supreme, showing up across small leather goods, rings, charms, and even sunglasses. The new Ola raffia bag, featuring traditional weaving and a wavy silhouette topped with a chunky donut chain, is a standout.
A new raffia bag makes its debut: the Ola, crafted with traditional weaving techniques and a wavy silhouette, finished with a playful donut chain. The name is fitting – just like its meaning, "wave" in Spanish, it’s bound to make a splash.
Meanwhile, denim appears in soft pastels for women and bold prints for men, channelling Loewe’s signature sense of ease. True to the brand’s craft-first DNA, the collection balances artful details with wearable joy — and yes, the tomato is the cherry (or should we say fruit?) on top.
