Now here's a collaboration made for workwear enthusiasts: Carhartt WIP has teamed up with London-based design studio Toogood for a capsule collection that comprises of staples from both brands' oeuvres.

The collection which comprises two jackets, a shirt, a trouser, an overall and a T-shirt is concise (from $120 to $510) and meant to be unisex while combining familiar elements from both brands such as Carhartt WIP’s beloved overalls and Toogood’s Photographer Jacket.

All garments are made in Carhartt WIP’s trademark organic cotton Dearborn Canvas and the lighter Utah Canvas and are finished with co-branded labelling and buttons.

For the uninitiated, Toogood is lauded for its polymorphic take to design. While the studio (founded by sisters Faye and Erica Toogood) first made its name in interior design and homeware (their Roly Poly chair has been inescapable in the homes of design-types in recent years), Toogood has also effortlessly expanded into accessories and clothing - the latter typically in monochromatic neutrals and cut in relaxed, mannish silhouettes.

While some collaborations can feel like they're done for the sake of hype (or just plain cash grabs?), the Toogood x Carhartt WIP collection — the first time both brands are working with the other — comes with a ring of authenticity. Both labels are known for their utilitarian design philosophy that focuses on functional evergreen staples (such as overalls and chore jackets) that can be easily mixed and matched for believable daily living; in other words, they pride on personal style over trendy statements.

“This collaboration has come from a very natural place for both brands,” says Erica Toogood. “Carhartt WIP’s history of modifying historic workwear sits effortlessly with Toogood’s nod to trades and workwear, reimagined and sculpted with artistic freedom."
