All The Reasons To Anticipate Uniqlo x JW Anderson's Second Collection
The upcoming Spring/Summer 2018 Uniqlo U drop may be the current talk of the town, but here's another collection we can't wait to get our hands on.
By SOFIA KIM,
When we found out about the first tie-up between one of the most critically-acclaimed fashion designers Jonathan Anderson (or more widely known as JW Anderson who designs for Spanish fashion house Loewe) and Japanese fast-fashion giant Uniqlo back in March 2017, we were ecstatic. When the collection debuted at Uniqlo's Orchard Central store, it was an instant hit that struck the perfect balance between form, function and style, that was very much wearable for every day.
Now, the two have teamed up once again for its 2018 Spring/Summer Uniqlo and JW Anderson collection for men and women, which will launch on 20 April (girls, remember to mark your calendar!) at the Japanese brand's Orchard Central store.
The upcoming collection is inspired by Britain’s Brighton Beach, celebrating the 50s heyday of this popular summer attraction. According to JW Anderson, he wanted the collection to be "something which is very lightweight, very airy, with a lot of linen and cotton that has a 1950’s subcultural movement". Brighton Beach is renowned as a vibrant and colourful city that is full of contrasts. The line highlights the designer's unique take on the Brighton culture, fusing quality fabrics with fabulous fit and functionality.
What to expect from the upcoming range: striped t-shirts and knit polos in vivid colours reminiscent of beachwear, as well as dresses, bomber jackets, feminine flared skirts and blouses with the British designer’s iconic ruffles and ribbons. T-shirts, knits and bags with seagull prints whimsically celebrate the joy of British seaside life. The range also incorporates workwear elements such as 50s-inspired denim jackets and tunic shirts inspired by traditional British police uniforms.
The collection employs soft colours with a touch of sunburn, true blue, poppy red, white and beige and sage green. The line also showcases other colourful additions such as plaid bright yellow and blue, inspired by playful multi-striping and picnic basket designs.
