Valentino Revives Three Archival Prints For Summer

The Loop, Animalier and Panther prints make a comeback from the Valentino archives to grace the house’s Escape summer capsule collection.

How about some fashion history to go with your summer wardrobe additions? That’s the vintage-made-current vibe of Valentino’s annual Escape capsule collections for summer. Since it was introduced in 2020, this yearly line has brought back prints and motifs from the Italian luxury house’s archives and recast them in a breezy new light. The idea behind these collections, as its name might hint at, is the uplifting joy from getting away and being elsewhere for a while.

This year, the house has brought back three of its archival prints. The styles are meant to be easy breezy – think airy caftans, flirty mini dresses, punchy beachwear, statement sunglasses, and some of the house’s signature bag styles dressed up in these prints.

Valentino's statement prints from the  '60s and '70s are back for some fun in the sun for its annual summer capsule collection.

There’s the Loop: a vibrant, multicolour concentric logo design from the brand’s 1971 Viva Valentino campaign. Think of it as colourful, lighthearted fun. There’s also the Animalier, an all-over jaguar print. First shown in 1967, and later photographed in 1987 on supermodel Linda Evangelista by Steven Meisel, the jaguar print is something of a vintage Valentino icon.

Lastly, there’s the Panther, a darker and slinkier print that’s all about shadowy allure. These designs feature overlapping black and white roaring panthers, and a jade green highlight. Its provenance: the Fall Winter 1967/68 haute couture collection, immortalised in photos after being worn by the legendary model Veruschka. Literally an haute couture print made ready to wear.

These revived prints are splashed across the Escape collection, on both ends of the casual to dressy spectrum. From printed two-piece beach looks and beach towels to sequin-embroidered tops and slinky lurex dresses, all touched with a bit of fabulous fashion history.
