Now more than ever, the trend of celebrities wearing archival pieces has gone to new heights. On and off the carpet, dressed in a rare archive gets them more buzz unlike anything else – it’s almost as if scoring the best archival pull is the award itself. With only so many available, owning them offers a sense of possessing a piece of history, or simply the thrill of discovering an item from a designer’s bygone golden era.

It’s quite rare, however, that you can score an archival piece simply from scouring thrift stores next door. So how do these A-listers get their hands on some of the most sought after pieces? The answer is yes – by ringing the brands directly. But thankfully, for the rest of us who don’t have major fashion houses on speed dial, these online destinations for vintage finds are just one scroll away.

1. Tab Vintage

Founded by Alexis Novak in 2019, Tab Vintage’s clientele include Hollywood A-listers such as Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid, and Charli XCX – who wore a 1980s Vivienne Westwood mini skirt purchased from Tab Vintage for her recent wedding. Novak’s curation spans pieces from Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel, Tom Ford’s Gucci, Gianni Versace’s Versace, and sculptural jewellery from Patricia von Musulin.

2. Aralda Vintage

If ten celebrities wore archival pieces to the red carpet, there is a high chance one of them is sourced from Aralda Vintage. From Tyla’s Bob Mackie couture dress she wore for this year’s Met Gala after party to Mikey Madison’s Christian Dior by John Galliano black lace gown for the BIFA, Aralda Vintage has an extensive range of iconic looks of the past.

4. El Cycér

What does Jennifer Aniston and Rihanna have in common? The two have shopped in El Cycer Vintage – the former wore a vintage Chanel bra on the cover of that Allure issue and the latter sported a Dior saddle bag for her birthday in Venice. From Gucci by Tom Fordi, 2000s Prada, to Azeddine Alaia, they have it all.

5. Reallist

Reallist is behind some of today’s iconic celebrity fashion looks, by way of their curation of storied vintage pieces, of course. Celebrity stylist Danielle Michelle is one the store’s loyal clients, responsible for putting Mrs. Bieber in many pieces from the store, including the Anna Wintour blue Gucci Tom Ford dress. On another occasion, sitting beside Timothee Chalamet at Golden Globes, Kylie Jenner wore a 1999 Versace silver dress sourced from Reallist. Considering their extensive archives, you ought to find everything from evening wear to the everyday.

6. Opulent Addict

In 2014, Anita Todor established Opulent Addict and soon enough it got a Kardashian as its first customer. Fast forward a few years later, all members of the Kardashian-Jenner clan have shopped at Opulent Addict, at least once. Offering ‘rare and unique couture’ pieces from named brands like Chanel, Versace, and many others, it’s become a celebrity favourite. Wondering where Sabrina Carpenter got her Chanel set for the cover of her single Espresso? It’s Opulent Addict.

Scrolling their feed has a similar feeling to flipping through a fashion history book – you’ll find shoppable pieces from names rarely brought up in modern fashion like Paul Poiret or Caroline Reboux. Occasionally, you can also strike an early 70s Hermes and Moschino ready-to-wear.

9. Archive

First launched in 2006, Archive has built quite the A-list fanbase.
