What To Get From Diesel's Spring/Summer 2023 Collection
Artistic director Glenn Martens brings denim to new heights in Diesel's Spring/Summer 2023 show.
By Khong Yawen,
Glenn Martens has been injecting a palpable sex appeal at Diesel since he assumed the role of artistic director in 2020. That energy culminated in the Spring/Summer 2023 collection which was showed last Sept during Milan Fashion Week. Everything from the glass butt plug show invite to the intertwined inflatable human figures in the middle of the show space (that earned the Guinness World Record for the largest inflatable structure) screamed the S-word.
Naturally there is plenty of skin and skin-tight looks at Diesel. Tube tops, micro mini skirts and mid-riff tops are par for the course – and bound to resonate with the Y2K-loving fans of the brand. The Spring/Summer 2023 collection also sees Martens organising Diesel's offerings into four ranges – Pop, Utility, Denim and Artisanal – that will go on to classify his designs.

The concept of Pop is explored in bright acid tones, like a metallic forest green and silver slip dress and a zipped, glossy trench dress in soda orange. Utility wear spans denim pants with several pockets protruding from every side, vest and oversized cargo pants. Meanwhile, Artisanal designs will cover more intricate pieces and couture-inspired silhouettes like faded denim corsets. As for the Denim range, a main pillar of Diesel, expect plenty of experimentation in the form of fray edges and distressed looks. And that includes the viral 1DR bag which comes with a studded denim and a matte metallic leather and finish.
Below, a list of buys from the collection for you to cop.
This half-moon shaped bag has achieved cult status among Diesel's customers, largely because of its affordability compared to other designer bags.
If there's one word to sum up the entire collection, its 'distressed' – much like this bag that's made from frayed denim that has been sun-treated. Also note the metal chain with the Diesel name embedded with little crystals.
These square toed strappy sandals come with a mesh footbed and a thick striped platform sole.
We wonder what can fit inside the pocket of these pointed-toe mules made from denim.
A grey camo-printed top gets amped up with textural crocodile prints and frayed denim trims.
To create this shimmering effect, this dress was printed with foil after being spun from a shiny lurex yarn.
It looks as if strips of denim have been zipped together to form this bandeau top that has a crystal Diesel logo in the centre.
When it first debuted at Diesel's Autumn/Winter 2022 show, this huge belt and mini skirt hybrid caused quite a stir for its design functionality. It's been said that its more so a belt than skirt – either way, we love this reflective, multi-coloured version of the piece.
For when you can't decide which colour or wash of denim you want to wear.
