Louis Vuitton's Damier Motif Now Comes In A Fine Jewellery Collection
The checkered Damier motif, one of the oldest symbols of the French maison, has now been translated into a fine jewellery collection for the first time.
By Lucy Lauron,
Louis Vuitton’s Damier motif is one of the brand's oldest symbols. The checker pattern was introduced by founder Louis Vuitton to distinguish its trunks in 1888, and more than a century on, it's become synonymous with the house and continues to embellish various product categories today - except fine jewellery.
That's about to change - for the first time, the Damier will be translated into in a fine jewellery line by the name of Le Damier de Louis Vuitton. The 12-piece collection consists of necklaces, rings, and earrings, each available in either yellow or white gold, with the Damier motif expressed through a modernist, grid-like pattern of gold squares and diamonds.
Just as how the Damier was created at a time when people were starting to travel more (thus requiring special trunks), the new Le Damier de Louis Vuitton collection matches the needs of today's consumers, says Francesca Amfitheatrof, the fouse’s artistic director for watches and jewellery.
For one, the rings in this range are available in three different widths - more options for stacking, fun! Said ring also comes in two styles: a more everyday version with two rows of gold and diamonds, or a bolder design featuring four rows of gold and diamonds.
The Le Damier de Louis Vuitton collection is made for everyday wear and offers plenty of styling options.
Like we said, they were designed for the contemporary consumer - and that means giving people plenty of styling options. Other stand-outs in this collection include the diamond-studded bracelets, which are Louis Vuitton's interpretation of the classic tennis bracelet, mimicking its casual, everyday elegance but rendering it flexible and pliant so that it rests comfortably on the skin.
Did we mention it's gender-neutral too?
And if you're wondering, yep the Le Damier de Louis Vuitton collection is pretty much gender-neutral - its clean, modernist shapes are a clear indicator. "Le Damier de Louis Vuitton is the creation of a new era, a modern collection designed to last forever," says Amfitheatrof.
The collection launches worldwide on October 18th - here, a closer look at the pieces:
