Representing love, fidelity and friendship, the three bands are typically made of rose, yellow and white gold, but have also been presented with diamonds or sapphires, and also in ceramic. The collection today includes rings, earrings, bracelets and pendants.

The range’s latest metamorphosis comes via what Cartier calls “a creative exploration” with Chitose Abe, the founder and designer of Japanese fashion label Sacai. Abe is best known for her deconstructive approach to design and her ability to make the familiar feel new with her creative splicing.

Despite retaining the use of rose, yellow and white gold bands, the six-piece collaborative collection feels fresh and reflects Abe’s penchant for manipulating forms. They made their runway debut during Sacai’s recent Autumn/Winter 2022/23 fashion show at the Hotel de Ville in Paris.

Officially dubbed Trinity for Chitose Abe of Sacai collection, the limited-edition outing will not be available in stores in Singapore. However, customers travelling can score a piece from Cartier boutiques in several overseas cities when the collection hit shelves in Tokyo from summer and in Paris, London, New York and Seoul starting in fall.

Two rings, a bracelet, a choker, an earring and a piece that can serve as an earring or a ring: The pieces in the Trinity for Chitose Abe collection include elongated forms that can be simultaneously worn on different fingers, or bands of differing sizes that shake up the Trinity’s traditional proportions.

Pierre Rainero, Cartier’s director of image, style and heritage, says: “In 1924, when the Trinity was created, it was very daring for a jewellery maison such as Cartier to offer its customers such a simple and intimate object, without precious stones. Since its creation, this three-band ring has been worn by all generations of women and men alike. With this new collection, it continues its journey as a truly all-inclusive piece of jewellery.”

Ahead, a close up look at the designs.
