Aptly dubbed Rouge Dior On Stage, Dior’s newest lipstick is built for the spotlight. With a breakthrough double‑phase formula that locks in bold pigments while affording a comfortable, high‑shine finish – elements that don’t always go together in bullet lipstick formulas – it promises to deliver luminous colour that doesn’t budge or fade, and feels good all day. Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup Peter Philips and house ambassador Jenna Ortega, who fronts the campaign, share more about why this is the lippie to wear when all eyes are on you.

For a lipstick designed to embolden self‑expression, Dior naturally turned to Wednesday star and house ambassador Jenna Ortega to front the Rouge Dior On Stage campaign. Here, she wears the shade 390 Redwood Star, a warm reddish‑brown with blue undertones and also her personal favourite.

JENNA, WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT ROUGE DIOR ON STAGE AND WHAT COLOUR IS YOUR FAVOURITE?

Jenna Ortega (JO): “I genuinely love a red lip, and it’s one of my favourite things about the Rouge Dior On Stage. I love the 390 Redwood Star shade, as it’s the perfect colour. It has a brownish tone, which makes it a very specific red. Some people might say all red lipsticks are the same, but they really aren’t – sometimes, the colour or undertone just doesn’t suit you. Redwood Star is my perfect red.” (At present, Rouge Dior On Stage comes in a total of 10 hues, ranging from subtle nudes to statement‑making browns and reds.)

WHAT SURPRISED YOU THE MOST ABOUT THIS NEW ROUGE DIOR LIPSTICK?

JO: “What surprised me most was how easy it is to apply. It has a slender bullet, and it feels very smooth and moisturising at the same time – that’s hard to find. It glides on almost like a lip balm and feels weightless, so your lips can breathe. It’s very refreshing and that’s how I like my makeup: I want it to elevate my face, not weigh it down.”

(Packaged in a slim and elongated midnight blue case with the CD logo turned vertically as opposed to the traditional horizontal placement – meant to symbolise a new era in lip colour for the brand – Rouge Dior On Stage is formulated with a blend of oils that promises to impart not only shine, but also hydration and comfort for 24 hours. Its bullet has been customised, taking the shape of an upside‑down teardrop, with the rounded top helping one shape the Cupid’s bow and the pointed tip helping to define the lower lip – all with a single swipe.)

Thanks to the double‑phase formula developed by Dior’s laboratories, Rouge Dior On Stage offers 10 shades of ultra‑vivid high‑shine colour with equally intense comfort and longevity. The slim, pen‑like case and inverted teardrop‑shaped bullet are meant to make application a cinch: The rounded top helps to shape the Cupid’s bow while the pointy end is for defining the lower lip.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT THE SHINY FINISH OF ROUGE DIOR ON STAGE?

JO: “I like that it feels very heightened and is a bit more visible, and I really like the way it catches the light.”

DESCRIBE ROUGE DIOR ON STAGE IN THREE WORDS.

JO: “Bold, elegant, impactful.”

JENNA, HOW HAS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH MAKEUP AND BEAUTY EVOLVED OVER THE YEARS?

JO: “Initially, I was very much a tomboy, so I wasn’t interested in makeup at all. Then, as a pre‑teen, I became obsessed with it and with being feminine, because it made me feel grown up. As you get older, it’s less about playing dress up and more about enhancing your natural beauty, or presenting yourself in a way that represents you best. So unless I’m at a photo shoot, I like to let my skin show and breathe, and I like to see my freckles. I also love a bold lip colour, but I’ve never been very good at eyeliner, so I prefer a smudgy eye. I definitely wear far less makeup now than when I was 14.”

DO YOU HAVE A CHILDHOOD MEMORY CONNECTED TO LIPSTICK?

JO: “My childhood memory of lipstick is the lip liner and lipstick my mum has worn her entire life – and still wears today. It’s a deep burgundy red and her staple. So I’ve always associated femininity, adulthood and womanhood with that colour.”

PETER, YOU OFTEN SPEAK ABOUT THE POWER OF LIPSTICK AS A STATEMENT. WHAT DOES THE NEW ROUGE DIOR ON STAGE SAY ABOUT FEMININITY AND SELF‑EXPRESSION TODAY?

Peter Philips (PP): “This lipstick is colourful yet discreet, caring but not boring, bold but not intimidating. The texture is comfortable and sophisticated, and the shine is bright and the pigmentation, strong. All these qualities are why this lipstick is in sync with what women aspire to wear today.”

WHAT MAKES ROUGE DIOR ON STAGE DIFFERENT?

PP: “Rouge Dior On Stage was born from revolutionary technology developed after extensive research by Dior laboratories. The double‑phase formula combines two usually incompatible phases into one lipstick, delivering extreme wear with intense comfort. For the launch, I didn’t want anything to distract from this breakthrough formula, so I focused on a range of strong, elegant shades that let people discover the innovation effortlessly.”

NOW TELL US, WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET A BOLD LIP?

PP: “I like a timeless drawn lip. To get the right shape, I’d use the Rouge Dior Contour lip liner in 777 Fahrenheit (a punchy orangey‑red) to outline the lip. Next, I’d fill in with Rouge Dior On Stage in 550 Red Shock (an intense red, as the name suggests). For me, this is the best way to achieve a bold lip.”
