Modern Hippie Linda Hao's Guide To Living Green And Being One With Nature

In light of the upcoming Earth Day on April 22 - hey, it's never too early to start – Female collective member and modern-day hippie Linda Hao lets us in on how she she lives a mindful and sustainable life.

What's Linda Hao been up to lately, you ask? The DJ, fashion designer and eco guru has been busy with Omm Home – a personal creative-haven-turned-studio that has served as a retreat of sorts for those looking to explore slow-living. The Johor Bahru-based studio has since conducted intimate sewing workshops and will soon be expanding into the realm of yoga and chakra knowledge. As of now, the self-proclaimed New Age Yogini is living the #slowlife in Thailand's Koh Phan Gan. Here, her tips on how to start living green – from mindful, everyday practices to tiny adjustments you can start making now. Ready for a lifestyle change?

Appreciate the little things in life

There are many ways to take action when it comes to living green. Some simple ways – take short showers to save water and make your own food when you can. Also, take a moment to appreciate food and water.

Choose eco-friendly and naturally-made products

3/15

Some eco-friendly products you can start opting for: a bamboo toothbrush, bamboo straws, toothpaste in a tin, oils that come in glass bottles, soaps made out of natural ingredients, hair powder as shampoo, rattan sandals and even a water bottle bag.

Bring your own food packaging and cutlery

5/15

By investing in eco-friendly staples you can start bringing your own whenever you can – from cutlery to save on single use plastic to your own food so as to reduce packaging waste to water bottles for easy top ups.

Eat local and fresh produce

6/15

Where you can, shop and eat local fresh produce. This helps to reduce waste and supports smaller businesses.

Rely on an eco-friendly beauty regime

8/15

Some of my favourite eco-friendly beauty items: Magic Of India's herbals shampoo powder, Oleum's face oil and Frangipani's organic deodorant stick.

Nature heals

9/15

A big part of living green is also implementing your practices like yoga and meditation in nature. Make time in your day to take a hike to relieve all of your stress and worries.

Take time to admire the sun

10/15

Spend a little time to be still and silent and watch the sun set. This is a beautiful way to give thanks to each day.

Practice body to earth connection in shavasana

11/15

I also practice connecting my body to the Earth. To do this, simply lay down in corpse pose – also called the shavasana pose in yoga practice – take in deep breaths to calm the mind and feel peace from the earth beneath the body.

Practice groundedness through walking meditation

12/15

Walking meditation is a great way to practice groundedness too. To do this, make sure you are taking conscious steps with every breath.

Try yoga on the beach

13/15

Do practice balance, acceptance and flexibility in nature's setting that's constantly moving with the wind.

Learn to let go and be a happy monkey

14/15

Don't be too serious – be free and be happy.

Notice the little things

15/15

Beauty is all around us if we care to notice. I personally like to take a stroll at night to discover the wonderful magic of blooming flowers.
