PARAGON SPECIAL

#1: The Soup Spoon + (#B1-K4/K7)

Yes, you can be satisfied with just a bowl of soup, especially if it’s from The Soup Spoon +. The cosy eatery whips up hearty offerings such as the Beef Goulash and Velvety Mushroom Stroganoff, which are all MSG and pork-free. If you prefer to customise your meal, you can create your own salad or wrap by choosing from over 30 fibre, protein, carbohydrate and homemade dressing options. There’s something for everyone here, whether you’re vegetarian, lactose-intolerant or gluten-intolerant.

#2: Da Paolo Gastronomia (#B1-K8)

Planning a picnic with your friends, but don’t have the time to put everything together? Da Paolo Gastronomia is a gourmet food shop with Italian meals that are all ready-to-eat for dining in or out. A tantalising selection of pastries like freshly baked croissants, cupcakes and Crodos (a croissant doughnut hybrid) are also available for that sweet addition to the hangout.

#3: Treasures – Yi Dian Xin (#B1-08)

Already a foodie magnet, the Imperial Treasure group’s latest venture, Treasures, serves classic Chinese dim sum dishes (congee with century egg, steamed custard buns, roast duck and beef tendons) in a contemporary setting. Instead of the usual typically Chinese decor, dine in a brightly-lit space with silvery accents. Some of the must-tries are the Marcella Fungi Dumplings and Steamed Custard Lava Buns.

#4: Dutch Baby Cafe (#B1-13)

Contrary to its name, there’s nothing Dutch about this restaurant. Rather you’ll find an assortment of German pancakes that are both sweet and savoury ($11.80 to $13.80). Options range from banana chocolate and caramel apple to Caesar bacon, and they’re the perfect size for sharing. The Dutch Baby pancakes, as they have been referred to since the 1900s, got their name from the German autonym, Deutsch. Compared to American-style pancakes, Dutch Baby pancakes are made on a hot cast iron pan that leaves it crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. On the menu are also Japanese curry style dishes ($13.80 to $17.80) for those who don’t fancy dessert as a main course.

#5: Dulcet & Studio (#B1-25)

Dulcet & Studio serves desserts that you don’t have to feel bad indulging in. It has an assortment of tasty treats sprinkled with chia seeds and healthy grains, alongside the usual palate pleasers like eclairs, tarts and mousse cakes. Grab cold-pressed juices here for that extra burst of energy to keep you going.

#6: Gyoza-Ya (#B1-43)

Typically, Japanese restaurants serve just one, maybe two Gyoza options, but this spot offers an impressive range of Gyoza dishes. They come boiled or pan-fried with pork, vegetables, prawns and crab meat ($4.80 to $8.80), or filled with a sweet red bean paste for dessert. Unique creations include the gyoza with egg filling, Mentaiko and the recent addition – Curry Chicken.

#7: Kaffir & Lime by ThaiExpress (#B1-45)

Even though it’s the upscale sister brand of ThaiExpress, you’ll still find plenty of Thai delicacies at affordable prices here ($5.90 to $22.90). Highlights include the Crispy Soft Shell Crab with Battered Morning Glory ($12.90), Glass Noodles with Black Pepper Crayfish in Claypot ($16.50) and Massaman Chicken Curry with Thai-style Pancake ($14.90). Complement your meal with exclusive Kaffir & Lime mocktails - Kaffir Spicy Mango Sparkle ($6.90), an infusion of kaffir leaves, spicy mango and tea, and the Lime & Blood Orange Cooler ($6.90), a mix of blood orange and calamansi - for a complete dining experience.

#8: Ginza Kushi-Katsu (#B1-47)

This is one destination all meat-lovers have to check out. Preparing its signature item, the Gyu Katsu ($22.80 or $34.80), is practically an art form. Premium beef fillets are deep fried to perfection, giving the meat a crispy crust on the outside while remaining a medium-rare shade of red within. Seafood and pork are also prepared using this same method. You can also have your meats more cooked using the mini grill that comes with every order. For an extra robust flavour, dip the meats in the wasabi soy sauce, mustard mayo and rock salt provided.

#9: PS. Café (#03-41/44)

The oldest of all PS. Cafés in Singapore, it has been in Paragon since 1999 and is a most reliable spot in the mall for hearty meals and irresistible baked goods. Each PS. Café boasts a different menu, and here, you’ll find great brunch dishes like the Original Laksa Pesto Spaghettini, Farmer’s Beef Stew, and Roast Chicken Sandwich. In addition to the food, there’s a wide spread of local and international magazines to fuel conversations.

#10: Café & Meal MUJI (#04-36/40)

Japanese lifestyle store Muji is known for its attention to simplicity. Likewise, its 52-seat in-store café is similarly unfussy. This is where you’ll find a comforting, home-cooked meal at any time of the day. The draw here is also its affordable prices. Deli sets are between $7.80 and $15.50, and choices of mains include a Spinach Chicken Hamburger, Baked Bak Kut Teh with Honey Glaze and Carbonara-Style Potato Salad. Also tempting are the $9.80 glasses of red or white wine to complement your meal.
