A Pompompurin Pop-Up Cafe Is Coming To Singapore In Celebration Of The Sanrio Character’s 30th Birthday

Although it might be hard to think of him as anything other than a baby, the adorably rotund Pompompurin turns 30 this year – and celebrations are in full swing. While Japan gets a slew of dining experiences, life-sized installations, and exhibitions to mark this milestone, Singapore isn’t left out of the birthday bash either. An adorable Pompompurin-themed pop-up cafe experience is landing in Singapore this May 2026, featuring themed decor, giant plushies, and photo-worthy dishes that perfectly channel Sanrio’s yellow pudding dog.
Hosting this Pompompurin pop-up cafe is Japan Rail Cafe, which is officially operated by JR East – yes, the transport company behind the train lines and shinkansens many of us rely on for getting around in Japan. As part of this special tie-up, the Pompompurin cafe’s menu is given a Tohoku-themed slant, whereby the local flavours of Japan’s Northeastern region are highlighted as a means to encourage exploration of this less-touristy part of the country.

Remember Singapore’s kawaii but shortlived Pompompurin cafe at Orchard Central, which operated from 2016 to 2017 before closing down? A fluffy mound of rice is moulded into the shape of Pompompurin’s face, surrounded by what looks to be tamagoyaki (egg) in shapes of flowers and hearts. It’s almost too cute to eat! Your protein intake is settled with a side of karaage.
Pompompurin inaniwa udon onsen bath
Tohoku has a ton of onsens, so here’s Pompompurin and friends soaking in a ‘hot spring’ of inaniwa udon, topped with sliced beef.
Pompompurin pudding parfait
Is it really a Pompompurin cafe if there’s no pudding? Dig into this dessert bowl, made less sinful with a generous serving of bananas, and topped with water biscuits and chocolate crunch for added texture.
Pompompurin after onsen banana milk
Downing a bottle of milk after an onsen sesh is quite a common practice in Japan. Cool off from Singapore’s heat with a cup of banana milk, topped with a heaping of whipped cream, chocolate drizzle, and cookie bits.

Japan Rail Cafe Singapore’s Pompompurin pop-up cafe will be running for slightly more than a month from May 4 to June 14, 2026, with opening hours of 11am to 9pm on Mondays to Thursdays, 11am to 9.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 11am to 8pm on Sundays. Do note that the cut-off for last orders is 30 minutes before a given day’s closing time.
