XG’s Newest Single, Depends Is All About Being In Control Of Your Choices
Call up your ex or meet someone new? Your next move depends on you. The global pop group returns with a relatable anthem, alongside a B-side track titled S.A.D.
What are you doing on a night out? Well, according to XG, it D-E-P-E-N-D-S on you. The global pop group based in Japan is back with their new single, Depends, which explores XG’s unfiltered feelings towards moving on according to their terms. The single comes as a two-track bundle also containing B-side track S.A.D, which is about embracing sadness in tough situations.

Following the release of their debut full-length album The Core earlier this year, Depends delves into the uncertainty and confidence that comes after a break up. The track is a blend of electro-pop and R&B, complete with XG’s signature layered harmonies and strong raplines. The group’s playfulness filled the song, with cheeky lyrics on moving on and embracing independence like “I might call you, might call my ex… I love to make you sweat”.
Fun lyrics aside, Depends reflects XG’s stance to be undefined, not just by their genre of music, which they call X-pop, but also in their confident message that the next move depends on them, and they will keep moving forward despite an uncertain future.
Accompanying the main single is S.A.D, the B-side track which continues the single’s honest themes. S.A.D is a mid-tempo R&B track that reflects XG’s raw feelings of heartbrokenness, and their expectations to put on a brave face despite their negative emotions. This song also expresses hope for their music to uplift and comfort listeners and their fans Alphaz, with vocalist Hinata singing “You know where to find me, if you need me”.
Depends is available as a US-exclusive physical release, aligning with their North America leg which they are currently on for the XG World Tour: The Core. XG is continuing to reach new heights with their upcoming return to Tokyo Dome for XG World Tour: The Core Final, along with more shows at Kyosera Dome Osaka. With new music out and exciting large-scale shows ahead, we are locked in to see what XG has in store next.
