9 Cool Shades That'll Make You Want To Wear Sunglasses At Night
Whoever said shades are limited to when the sun is out has obviously not caught up with the latest Balenciaga collection.
We always thought that wearing sunglasses at night and indoors verge a little too much on "acting cool" territory rather than being "really cool". Then Demna Gvasalia's Summer 2021 Pre-collection for Balenciaga happened.
ICYMI, that collection was presented via a music video which showed models wearing – yeap, you guessed it, sunglasses at night – while roaming the streets of Paris nonchalantly in the twilight hour. An infectious soundtrack, a remix of Corey Hart's 1984 track I Wear My Sunglasses At Night by Gvasalia's husband/electronic artist Loik Gomez a.k.a Bfrnd, added to the vibe and mystique.
Gvasalia's choice of black sunglasses – wraparound or bug eye – was not an afterthought; to him, they're an essential uniform of looking stylish. In the press notes, the brand stated: "Their anatomical shape and light-obscuring lenses, especially at night, represent an irreplaceable element of the fashion silhouette."
So in the spirit of channelling this "fashion silhouette", we've pulled some of our favourite black shades not unlike the ones in the Balenciaga collection. A word of advice: Just be mindful of where you walk because it could get really dark.
