Burberry Weaves A New Check For The Year Of The Snake
It's a year of transformation and renewal- and Burberry has has these themes interwoven into their new capsule collection.

What do bamboo-weaving and the check pattern have in common? They're both featured in Burberry's capsule collection for Chinese New Year. In collaboration with renowned Chinese bamboo-weaving artist, Qian Lihuai, Burberry introduces a new capsule collection for the year of the snake.
Considering Burberry's heritage in textile innovation (one example being the innovation of the gabardine fabric, known for its open and reticular weave pattern), the house's collaboration with Qian, who hails from a long line of bamboo-weavers, is one that makes sense.
Burberry tapped on Chinese artist Qian Lihuai, a master at the craft of bamboo-weaving, to create a series of sculptures fashioned out of the wood - the sculptures appear in windows of key flagships in China, as well as inspiring the brand's store windows across the country.
The Chinese artist is a famed name in the ancient craft of bamboo-weaving. In commemoration of Burberry's new collection, Qian crafted a series of handmade bamboo sculptures titled Us, pictured above. Intentionally fashioned into serpentine shapes, the sculptures represent themes of love, care and support. On the collaboration, Qian says, "I’ve always been drawn to Burberry’s signature patterns, and it struck me how the textures and colours have an extraordinary resemblance to the intricate designs found in bamboo weaving. It feels like a natural connection."
In a nod to the snake's transformative power, the collection features a revival and revamp of trademark Burberry motifs - something creative director, Daniel Lee, has been doing since joining the British fashion house. Along with a new B motif in a serpentine style, Burberry's iconic check pattern comes in a new seasonal colour: red.

In red, the check is punchy but elegant and is splashed onto Burberry's stalwart pieces, trench coats and rainwear, scarves and the mini Peg duffle bag. The British rose also makes an appearance on shoes in the form of detachable charms.
