By Alby Permana,
In all its rigid, structured, blistering form, loafers are essential to any wardrobe. Though I’ll admit, there are moments where I need to rush and step on the back of my shoes, and wishing loafers aren’t so hard on the feet. However, as of recently, there is a softer, much supple silhouette subtly creeping on the walks of runways: the soft loafers, or what I like to call lazy loafers. Think the ease of flats-slash-mules with their collapsible backs, but with the looks of a loafer. It’s still that no lace, no fastening slip on shoe we all know and love, just rid of the hard-to-break-into feature, more comfortable and easier to slip into.
1. Suede loafers, $1,550, Miu Miu
These Miu Miu shoes leave you with the option to wear it like a true loafer, but with comfort thanks to the ruched supple backing or step on it like how one would wear a mule. This pair in light brown suede is an irresistible alternative to the classic black that is still just as versatile.
2. Calfskin leather loafers, $1,620, Prada
Prada’s ruched loafers are offered in three other classic colours. With a slight heel, this pair makes for a more formal option compared to its Miu Miu counterpart.
3. Leather loafers, $1,650, Gucci
Gucci’s well-loved horsebit loafer embraces a much softer silhouette with xx leather. The foldable backing is more forgiving on comfort, without compromising on some serious businesses.
4. Campo calfskin leather loafers, $1,800, Loewe
The Campo loafer spins the classic loafers with a nod to the boat shoe. Less minimalistic in crocodile-embossed on the upper, it’s a pair you can take to anywhere. The leather lining also makes it easier to style without socks.
5. Le Loafer Foldable patent eel loafers, $1,960, Saint Laurent by Anthony Vacarello
A stunning rich burgundy option you reach for when you’re looking to zhuzh up your outfit in a pinch. Ruched all around with a pointy toe that we can’t get enough of and you certainly won’t too.
6. Split lamb leather loafers, $920, JW Anderson
The rebranding of JW Anderson brings in the designer’s take on this lazy loafer trend. This one in black is completely chic for both day and night. For a less serious option, the limited-edition shoe also come in other colours such as yellow, red, blue in patchwork jacquard fabric.
7. Calf leather slip-on loafers, $1,285, Margiela
The tabi takes on a twist to the classic moccasins. If you’re looking for both edge and comfort, this pair styles great for formal wear styled with office wear or casual days paired with shorts and white socks.
8. Leather loafers, $742, Toteme
Toteme’s no-fuss minimalistic designed loafer makes 9-5 a more bearable endeavor. This pair made from calfskin leather has a narrow, squared toe that your feet will thank you.
9. Calf leather loafers, $783, Dear Frances
One of the key desirability of these new silhouette is the fact that you still look proper and formal without compromising on comfort. In indulgent brown colour, it certainly does not compromise on style too.
