Her fit: “My top and bottoms are from Taobao, and I’m wearing a Rebelle activewear top underneath. My bag is from Coach, and my shoes are also from Taobao.”

Inspiration behind her fit: “My outfit was inspired by Aespa’s title track, Better Things. They had a summer fairy-like aesthetic, and I wanted to create a similar vibe with my look.”

Favourite thing about attending a concert: “I love experiencing live vocals from singers I’ve been following and sharing the concert euphoria with my friends. It’s also so much fun to sing along to the lyrics with them!”

Her personal style: “I switch between cute and edgy. My wardrobe includes both girly, bright pieces – often described as coquette – and more street style with monochrome colours.”

Occupation: University Student

Her fit: “The top and skirt are from a super cute store in Hongdae, Seoul, called Eun Shop. My shoes are cat boots from Killstar. My necklace is actually the Aespa Drama (SM mini ver) keychain album that I converted into a necklace and wear daily.”

Inspiration behind her fit: “My outfit was inspired by Aespa’s latest era, Armageddon. They wear stunning black outfits that highlight their personalities and vibe. Although I don’t have many leather pieces and the weather here is quite hot, I wanted to capture the rocker-chic look that Karina had in the music video.”

Her personal style: “I’m drawn to darker pieces, like the outfit I’m wearing. I grew up listening to rock music but didn’t have the chance to express my style since my parents usually chose my clothes for New Year’s. Now, I select my own clothes and have been replacing my wardrobe with darker, streetwear that suits Singapore’s weather. I’d love to go bolder with my outfits if possible, but it’s challenging to find elaborate pieces without spending a fortune.”

The influence of music on her dressing: “Previously, I wore whatever was comfortable without much direction, often following trends to look good. Nowadays, I choose my clothes based on my mood and the music I’m listening to. For example, Aespa’s different eras and styling inspire me. When going to places like Orchard or other fancy spots, I refer to their styling and the vibe of their songs to select pieces from my closet. As I play in a rock band, my wardrobe now includes a lot of rock and metal-inspired clothes, which I also wear on casual days. It’s a win-win for me.”

Name: Nicole Bruma

Age: 23

Occupation: Sales Assistant

Spotted at: Aespa's Live Tour – Synk Parallel Line at the Singapore Indoor Stadium

Her fit: “My top is from AliExpress, and my jorts and legwarmers were purchased from Carousell. My shoes are from Skechers. I originally wore these shoes for site visits as an architectural drafter, but today I’m wearing them to complement my outfit. My bag is from a store called Stillnook. For accessories, the necklace is from @heartxbreakanniversary, and the index finger ring is from @peanutproducts – both from Instagram stores.”

The inspiration behind her fit: “I aimed to merge two different Ningning looks from Aespa's recent comeback promotions. Her pre-release single Supernova featured a standout outfit with jorts and a bodysuit, which inspired this look. I tried to blend the maximalist elements of Supernova with the darker, cooler streetwear from the Armageddon video, using tones I already had in my wardrobe.”

Her personal style: “Over the past year, I’ve been gradually building a maximalist wardrobe. I adore loud, bright colours and varying textures to create a visually engaging look. This love partly comes from growing up with quality second-hand clothes from my cousins, though I also favour darker streetwear for a more casual, everyday style. I prefer clothes and shoes that add visual interest – whether subtle or bold – and I avoid fast fashion for its lack of quality. I enjoy creating new outfits from existing pieces.”

Her current fashion obsession: “I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect pair of jorts for the last few months. The ones I’m wearing are second-hand from Carousell and not the original pair I intended to wear. I planned to get the Canyon Embroi Jorts in denim by T-Redx, a Vietnamese streetwear brand, which would have made the outfit even more fun and quirky if I had ordered them in time.”

Her fit: “I upcycled my top and shorts from skinny jeans, and the grey top underneath is from Shopee. The legwarmers were also made by me from a pair of sweatpants, and my shoes are from Taobao.”

Inspiration behind her fit: “I drew inspiration from Aespa’s Armageddon stage outfits, especially the ones where they had blonde hair and wore legwarmers. I wanted to make a hoodie as well, but I didn’t have enough of the same fabric.”

Her personal style: “I tend to dress quite androgynously, or at least that’s the vibe I aim for. My biggest style icon since childhood has been Avril Lavigne from the late 2000s. I also have a penchant for asymmetry and outfits that look like they’re straight out of the film Dune.”

One underrated fashion trend: “I recently visited a textile museum and saw many old, intricate gold hairpins that people used to wear. While gold might be a bit much, I think we should definitely bring back hairpins in general – they have such a unique look.

Her fit: “I crafted the crocheted top and gloves myself. The basic black top I’m wearing underneath is a gift from my mum, and I also made the black cargo pants. My boots were sourced from Carousell, and my framed glasses and belt are from Shopee.”

Inspiration behind her fit: “While busking with my friends under the crew Adrestia, we embraced acubi fashion, known for its distressed textures, monochromatic colours, and charismatic aura. I decided to incorporate my personal style by using crochet techniques to achieve a distressed look and paired it with basic black items from my wardrobe. It’s turned out to be one of my favourite outfits among those I’ve styled.”

How crocheting influenced her style:Crocheting has allowed me to experiment more boldly with unique textures and silhouettes. It boosts my confidence, especially since I love wearing crochet pieces from my label, Your Dayly Rouge. I usually choose distinctive items that match my mood, and my crochet creations often become the focal point of my outfits.”

Her favourite Aespa dance cover: “Drama. The choreography and song make me feel like the main character in my own story. I especially love the moment when Aespa flips their hair majestically – it's such a powerful statement. It reminds me to embrace the spotlight and give the audience a memorable performance.”

On the influence of music on her style: “Music, especially K-pop, heavily influences my wardrobe. I often draw inspiration from the outfits my favourite idols wear for their performances and comebacks. Occasionally, I’ll even get similar clothes or pieces from the same brand as those worn or endorsed by my idols.”

Name: Xara Cynara

Age: 26

Occupation: Owner of Rework in Progress thrift store

Spotted at: Illustration Arts Festival 2024 at Tanjong Pagar Distripark

Her fit: “My tops and skirts are from Rework In Progress (RIP) thrift store. My shoes are Dr. Martens, and my bag was a gift from my best friend.

Inspiration behind her fit: “I wanted to style the grey top I was wearing because it had a funny text on it: ‘feeling in an adult mood’. I built the rest of my outfit around that shirt.”

On her maximalist style: “I’ve always been a maximalist, but I was held back by critics until I fully embraced my style in 2021. I believe my personal style is loud and expressive – essentially, whatever I feel like wearing. Ultimately, this style makes me feel the most ‘slay’. I’m a loud, excessive, and exuberant person, so I’ve got to dress the part!”

Best part of being a thrift store owner: “Honestly, it’s meeting everyone who comes to our store and being able to source for clothes. And, of course, getting free clothes is a nice bonus too.”

Occupation: Illustrator

Spotted at: Illustration Arts Festival 2024 at Tanjong Pagar Distripark

Her fit: “My top is from Shopee, and my skirt is from Unda White Label. I’m wearing Crocs for shoes, and my beret is official Genshin Impact merchandise from one of its apparel collections. The earrings are from a local accessory shop on Instagram, @bloppity.blop. The silver waist chain is also from Shopee, and I added a cloth belt I found buried in my wardrobe to give the skirt an extra layer.”

Inspiration behind her fit: “I wanted something flowy because of the Singapore heat. I centred the outfit around the skirt and paired it with a beret and hijab in matching colours. The blouse is light and brightens up the look. I added the cloth belt for a bit of interest and included light blue and silver accents with my earrings and waist chain.”

The influence of illustration on her style: “I enjoy applying creativity to my personal style, much like I do in drawing. Both are avenues for self-expression and exploration. As my art became bolder, so did my wardrobe. I used to wear black all the time, but now it’s more of a rare choice. My artist friends also have distinctive styles, which is inspiring and fun. Dressing up together feels joyful, and sometimes we look like we’re heading to different concerts.”
