The 5 Most Instagrammable Moments At Milan Fashion Week
With the curtain finally drawn at the Italian city and Paris capping the fashion calendar today, we highlight all the Insta moments that went down at Milan Fashion Week.
By IMRAN JALAL,
#1: The Alessandro Michele Look
You couldn't rifle through the crowds at any shows and the street style photos without spotting someone in the "new Gucci" look. In most cases, seeing so many people in similar outfits would have been a bad thing. But at Fashion Week, that's the equivalent of getting a billion "likes" on Instagram. The scene at Gucci's Monte Napoleone boutique was equally hectic, with show-goers, tourists and journalists wanting something from Michele's repertoire. Spoiler alert: those furry leather loafers have sold out.
#2: The GI Janes
So the consensus at Milan is how rejuvenated, exciting, and even edgy the scene has become. You just need to turn to the cast of models to see that new mood. The ones that stood out were the cool girls with their arresting cropped 'dos: Ruth Bell (she walked Max Mara, Gucci, Versace); the Venturini sisters (they made their runway debut at Tod's); and Kris Gottschalk (she turned up at Emilio Pucci and Max Mara). That's what we call a model buzz.
#3: That Riccardo Tisci Party
To celebrate the opening of Givenchy's Milan boutique and his 10th year at the helm of the house, Riccardo Tisci transported the crowds to an abandoned factory to party. And then... all hell broke loose. Fashion hell, that is, as one editor was heard quipping. Rottweilers, latex-wearing crossdressers, glam rockers, topless bartenders, Nicki Minaj and a band of Goth Club Kids dancing on the stage - it felt like we were in the midst of filming a music video.
#4: Dolce & Gabbana's Runway Selfies
The first inkling of what to come was the public service announcement broadcasted on the giant screens of the show venue. When models came out, some were clutching their mobile phones, stopping to pout, smize and pose for a selfie. Gimmicky or not, it was the perfect accessory to a collection that was brimming with touristy overtones (postcard prints next season, anyone?). The images that were instantly beamed on the screens were proof that the models know their angles.
#5: The Amazing Accessories
Get ready to shop next season. Milan went big with statement, Phil Oh-worthy accessories that were rich with details. Chunky sculptural heels, a double bag, ball bearing earrings, guitar pluck earrings, body harnesses - our list of "Add to Cart" pieces is certainly growing.
