By Imran Jalal,
The lock amulet is a motif that has been used time and again in jewellery making to represent – you've guessed it – protection and security. At Tiffany & Co. it comes with an even more precious backstory: Owning the jeweller's charming Heart Tag lock-inspired pendant has become a rite of passage for most women since the design debuted in 1980.
After slightly more than five decades on, the brand is rethinking its approach to padlock-inspired jewellery designs with a new permanent line called Tiffany Lock. Making its debut in Singapore on January 2, the collection's first drop comprises solely of bangles that are crafted with a reductionist and elegant design POV. (This month's outing will be followed with a more expansive release in the later part of 2023 that will feature rings, earrings and pendants.)
An innovative swivel design was created specially for the clasp of the Tiffany Lock bangles.
The result is a fashion-forward metal loop design with an innovative swivelling mechanism on its clasp that takes inspiration from the way padlocks are opened. The slim size of the bangles also mean they're primed for everyday wear and stacking. The sleek design also add to the unisex appeal of the bangles. In fact, the Tiffany Lock is the brand's first gender-neutral collection – an egalitarian approach in wearing jewellery that more progressive brands are taking these days.
The designs are available in white, yellow and rose gold, as well as a combination of two gold colourways for customers who prefer something more playful. And for a touch of shine, there are also designs that come with either fully-paved diamonds or those with a few accents of diamonds set into the bangle.
Below, a selection of some of the designs available in stores right now.
