Move aside Dubai chewy cookie, a new viral food trend has entered the chat.

By now, we’ve probably all seen (or fallen victim to) the Korean Dubai chewy cookie trend – with its pull-apart chocolate-dusted mochi skin and crunchy pistachio interior, this indulgent snack that’s been all over our FYP the past few months has proven almost impossible to resist. And who can possibly forget shio pan? The tantalising Japanese salt bread that has fast become a staple in many bakeries in Singapore. Now, a new food trend has entered the mix, and it’s as addictive as you’d expect.

Butter mochi (also known as butter tteok) has quickly become the internet’s latest food obsession. It’s a Korean-style snack made from glutinous rice flour, melted butter, milk, sugar and eggs. Despite its simple ingredients, the butter mochi quickly gained popularity in Korea and Southeast Asia for its crispy, caramelised exterior that reveals a chewy, mochi-like texture when bitten into. So, if you’re a fan of all things buttery, soft but not as sinful, scroll down for six bakeries in Singapore where you can get a taste of the viral butter mochi.
