With the growing number of traditional and artisanal tea houses in Singapore, it looks like tea is steadily blooming into a beloved niche. Amongst the buzz of fleeting trends in this fast-paced world, here’s the appeal of tea houses: slowing down.

For those who’ve fallen in love with tea as a craft, intentionality and being in-the-moment is its main appeal — perfect for those looking for a tranquil space, away from the noise of the fast-paced world outside. As the founder of Tea Room by Ki-setsu, who goes by Bay-San, says, “Tea is simple, but it is never boring.”

If the art of tea-drinking is about more than aesthetics, and all about the value in pause, these tea rooms in Singapore offer tea experiences that prioritise quality and serenity — so slow down, and enjoy.

BEST TEA HOUSES IN SINGAPORE FOR SLOWING DOWN

1. Atelier Cherub

Atelier Cherub

What they’re about: Founded in 2023 by tea practitioner and artist who goes by Tiffany, Cherub Atelier is an appointment-only tea atelier that offers intimate tea sessions specifically curated to its guests and their interests. “There is a structure to the learning, but I like leaving room for discussion, observation and discovery,” Tiffany explains.

She first fell in love with tea because of the sense of inner peace it provided her. From the preparation process, to the ritual, the art of tea drinking — its quietness and intentionality first drew her in, and is the exact experience that Cherub Atelier is about. Perfect for newbies and those looking for more intentional ways of slowing down, this tea atelier offers a curation of tea leaves. Tiffany’s current favourite? A 2021 Hui Yuan Keng Lao Cong Shui Xian, made in the traditional style.

Advice on the best way to enjoy tea: “I think sharing is an important part of the experience,” Tiffany says, “Talk about what you’re tasting with the people around you, even if you experience the same tea differently. We learn a lot from each other, and that’s part of what makes drinking tea together so enjoyable.”

For newbies, Tiffany’s advice is simple: go in with curiosity and an open mind. “I would encourage them to pay more attention to what they are already experiencing...You don’t need to have a specialised vocabulary to describe tea. Sometimes the most personal associations can be the most interesting ones.”

2. Miura

In Good Company

What they’re about: The founders of Paaru, Vincent Teng and Pang Hui Shan (who goes by Shan), have opened a tea stand this past July: Miura. Tucked away on the first floor of In Good Company’s Joo Chiat store, Miura offers a more modern and localised take on tea compared to the other tea concepts on this list. From warabi mochi with Peranakan-inspired flavours in honour of Miura’s Joo Chiat locale, to cold brews with flavoured foam toppings, Miura offers a quiet and intentional haven in the neighbourhood, with the added bonus of being surrounded by beautifully crafted fashion and lifestyle goods.

“Since our time at Pearl’s Hill Terrace, we encountered many guests who have really enjoyed the discovery of restful spaces and we have been learning and making wagashi from our time hosting uchi (meaning home in Japanese) sessions [at Asaru Studio],” Shan says, “We wanted to create a more accessible everyday experience where people can enjoy high-quality Japanese tea as part of their daily routine, so Miura seems like a natural extension of our affinity with tea and wagashi.”

Advice on the best way to enjoy tea: Shan’s take is: “There isn’t really a should or must in enjoying tea. I think everyone’s choice of tea is a reflection of how they are feeling at the moment, it’s usually not a means of fulfilling a need. My suggestion is to try as many different types of teas and with different preparation methods to learn about your own tastes and preferences.”

3. Jing Studio

Jing Studio

What they’re about: One of the newest tea bars in Singapore, Jing Studio by tea master William Chee opened in June 2026, in a 19th century national monument: the House of Tan Yeok Nee, Singapore’s last surviving Teochew mansion. As a long-time tea-lover, Chee’s goal with this contemporary tea bar is simple: to “[respect] the depth and craftsmanship behind tea while making it approachable for people who may be discovering it for the first time.”

Chee’s personal favourite is Phoenix Spring, an oolong from Teochew, Guangdong with tasting notes of “fresh honeysuckle, crisp mineral and sweet nectar notes”, which also happens to be from the same region as Mr Tan Yeok Nee. Aside from its signature black tea, to its herbal blends, Jing Studio also offers patisserie pairings, courtesy of its sister concept Koko.

Advice on the best way to enjoy tea: Chee’s advice is to engage with all five senses. “Look at how the leaves open up and how the colour of the tea changes with each pour. Enjoy the little details — the sound of dry leaves dropping into the pot, water pouring, and cups clinking. Take in the shifting aromas, from the dry leaf to the warm steam of the brewed tea. Notice how the tea feels in your mouth, is it light like water, or smooth and velvety like silk? Pay attention to how the flavours shift from your first sip to the last, and the lingering taste left behind.”

4. Tea Room by Ki-setsu

Tea Room by Ki-setsu

What they’re about: Founded in late 2025 by 40-year-old Bay-San, Tea Room by Ki-setsu is an appointment-only tea room that’s all about intentionality. “I wanted to create a space where people can calm down, slow down, and enjoy tea properly,” he says, “There is no food, no unnecessary distraction, and no over-decoration. The focus is only on tea.”

On the menu: a selection of tea harvested from ancient trees. That means that all their tea leaves come from trees that have lived for hundreds of years, sourced directly from the origin. “It is an expensive and time-consuming process,” Bay-San says, “But Tea Room by Ki-setsu is a passion project. It was created because I genuinely love tea and teaware.”

Advice on the best way to enjoy tea: Bay-San says to “always trust your own taste.” Ignore the noise of social media and price tags, go for teas that you genuinely love and enjoy. For beginners, his advice would be: “Start with the best tea you can, drink slowly, and pay attention to how the taste changes with each pour. Tea is not something you need to overthink. You just need to be honest with your own taste buds.”

5. Silk Tea Bar

Silk Tea Bar

What they’re about: Founded 13 years ago by 35-year-old Xian Tan who works in film production, Silk Tea Bar is the product of years of learning the language of tea. “Unexpectedly, I got deeper and deeper into the language of tea beyond the form and ritual. In 2019, I quit smoking, then drinking, to clean up my palate.” Primarily furnished with vintage and secondhand pieces, the tea bar is designed to be more serious and focused for tea tastings, while the rest is meant to feel "honest and comfortable.”

Alongside its quality teas, Silk Tea Bar also runs art exhibitions and collaborations. Its latest collaboration is with Chef Akane Eno of Ichigo Ichie for their latest seasonal menu, running from June to August, 2026.

Advice on the best way to enjoy tea: For Tan, tea is all about the experience, one that you soak up and stay present in. “Start with your senses,” she says, “The scent of the tea. The warmth of the cup. The round, rolling weight of the liquid on your tongue. The clarity of a scene unfolding through taste. Finally, its resonant length. How does the tea make you feel? A good tea is like a good film ––– it stays with you long after it ends.”

6. Inner Teahouse

Inner Teahouse

What they’re about: For regulars at art enclave Pearl’s Hill Terrace, Inner Teahouse might look familiar. It first opened alongside the ceramics and lifestyle store, Round & Round Gallery in late 2024 by 31-year-old Jane Cai. This year, Inner Teahouse now inhabits its own space in Chinatown where its tea and true tranquility are the focus.

All its teas are procured from the mountainous province of Fujian, one of China’s main tea suppliers. Its approach is unpretentious, and it’s a spot where tea-drinking is all about, as its name suggests, finding inner peace.

Advice on the best way to enjoy tea: For Cai, tea-drinking isn’t about the bells and whistles that most social media frenzies prioritise. Rather, it’s about the current moment, and finding enjoyment in the simple yet meaningful drink. “Tea is meant to be approachable and relaxed,” she says, “It doesn’t need to carry so many labels. What matters most is the quality of the tea and the experience of drinking it in the moment.”
