The Gucci Love Parade Collection Is Made For Dreamers
Gucci Love Parade is an ode to the art of playing dress up. Together with the Italian brand, FEMALE invites four creatives who embody that eclectic energy to shine in ready-to-wear and accessories from the collection.
Alessandro Michele, the creative director steering the ship of Gucci, has long been a believer in the transportative magic of Hollywood. You could say it's always been in his blood; his beloved mother was a film assistant in a production company, and often regaled him with tales of Hollywood and the old-world sirens that inhabited it.

Those seductive stories proved to be the spark for the Italian house's Spring/Summer 2022 collection, titled Gucci Love Parade. As Michele shared in a statement: “Hollywood seemed like a bright and shiny star. Nine letters dripping with desire… those subversive tales helped me in piercing the grayness; (Hollywood) was my escape.”
To wit, the collection – Gucci’s first in-person show since the start of the pandemic – was staged on Hollywood Boulevard itself, where more than 100 characters strolled down the Walk of Fame, alit in everything from filmy, Elizabeth Taylor-worthy gowns (see Jessica Chastain and Dakota Johnson at the recent Oscars as prime exhibits) and feather boas to palm tree-print shirts, cowboy hats and foppish suits festooned with XXL flower brooches.
All-out glamour pusses, sporty-meets-futuristic cowboys, foppish dandies and hapless tourists – the Gucci Love Parade show last Nov was a romantic, free-for-all nod to all types of Hollywood tropes.
As befits a collection dedicated to Hollywood's glossy veneer, Gucci is also introducing a shining new iteration of the most classic bags in the brand's lexicon. Titled Beloved Silver, it sees Michele's well-loved models such as the Jackie 1961, the Diana and the Bamboo 1947 given a silver-hued makeover, echoing the silver screen (geddit?) glamour of the collection.

In short, the collection was an ode to the many costume designers Michele has long admired – it nodded to the crucial role costume designers have always played in creating the mythology of Hollywood, that promised land where anyone can be transformed into a different persona.
This shiny edition of the Gucci Bamboo 1947 bag is part of the maison's new Beloved Silver collection.
Which is why FEMALE has invited four friends of the magazine – fashion design student Farah Sudiro, art director Miki Charwin, models Ryan Drysdale and Jesper Chai – whose distinctively individualistic personas and dress sense exemplify the collection's exuberant, wear-it-as-you-please vibes.
